Singing choral masterpieces with excellence and passion!

Welcome to the Portland Symphonic Choir, Portland's oldest and largest independent choral organization. Under the direction of Dr. Steven Zopfi, we are a force of 130 voices, and we are known for the large and beautiful sound that we produce when we sing the greatest choral masterworks in the repertoire.

Since 1945, Portland Symphonic Choir has been a strong presence in Portland's cultural and artistic communities. Founded by C. Robert Zimmerman, the Choir is known for the quality of its music. Strong singers with fine music backgrounds are drawn to combine their talents with others of similar skills and interests. Together, these kindred tastes and love for singing make the group into a premier choral organization - a quality that has distinguished the Portland Symphonic Choir ever since.

Outreach and Education

Portland Symphonic Choir's mission includes reaching out into diverse communities in the Portland metropolitan area in order to recruit singers representative of the rich cultures in the area as a whole, educating young voices, and exposing young people and adults alike to the joys of choral singing.

Working closely with the many professional music educators who are a part of our Choir, the Education and Outreach Committee constantly assesses the needs of the community, evaluates ways of supplementing the musical education available in local schools, and then selects those activities that most closely match our mission.
