Whether you sing in a professional choir, a school choir, or a choir for one in the shower, Summer Sings is for you! Three Wednesdays in August, music lovers of all stripes come to sing through choral masterworks with members of the Portland Symphonic Choir led by some of the finest conductors in the Pacific Northwest.

Meet our conductors!
August 2 – Dr. Paul Klemme
Paul Klemme is presently the Director of Music Ministries at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, Oregon, where he conducts four choirs at the church and serves as the parish organist. He is a member of the adjunct teaching faculty at Willamette University in Salem and conducts the Willamette Master Chorus of Salem. Dr. Klemme recently completed nine years as Associate Professor of Music at Washington State University, Pullman, Washington before moving to Salem. He is active as an organ recitalist in the United States and Europe (together with colleague, trumpeter Gerald Webster) and has played and conducted at the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, Oregon. Paul received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington.
August 9 – Dr. Giselle Wyers
Giselle Wyers is the Donald E. Petersen Associate Endowed Professor of Choral Music at the University of Washington, where she conducts the University Chorale and teaches courses in choral conducting and voice. University Chorale’s debut CD,Climb, won third prize in the collegiate division of the American Prize for Choral Performance in 2012, and their CD Refuge is currently in the finals for the same award. Wyers is a leading national figure in the application of Laban movement theory for conductors. Each summer she team-teaches choral conducting with James Jordan at Westminster Choir College, and has led workshops on Laban across the United States. Wyers holds a D.M.A. in conducting from the University of Arizona.
August 16 – Dr. Dwight Uphaus
Dwight Uphaus is a life long music educator and church musician. His teaching has covered a wide gamut from middle school and high school, college and seminary in instrumental, choral and church music. He earned a doctorate in choral conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas Conservatory of Music. He remains an active mentor, clinician and adjudicator as well as private voice teacher. Dwight has been a member of the Portland Symphonic Choir for nearly thirty years.
