VESPERS - RETURNED
Patricia Reser Center for the Arts
April 18 ‐ 19 | In-Person & Livestream
Experience an evening of unparalleled beauty and human force—an immersive encounter where the athletic intensity of dance meets the power of 100 live vocalists.
In this epic collaboration, award-winning composer and choreographer Samuel Hobbs and choral director Alissa Deeter reunite their ensembles to create 'Vespers', a kinetic, high-impact performance that reimagines Rachmaninoff's 'All-Night Vigil' for a contemporary stage.
The result—a continuous, driving reframing of a landmark score—visceral, expansive, and unmistakably human.
About Vespers
Vespers brings together the full vocal force of the Portland Symphonic Choir with push/FOLD's athletic, post-contemporary movement language. Approached as a dynamic engine, Rachmaninoff's pivotal score generates momentum, resistance, density, and release in this concert experience.
Dancers move within and against a living field of sound, navigating shifting waves of choral viscosity that shape the physical architecture of the performance. Voice and body operate as equal drivers, creating an immersive environment where motion and music continuously reshape one another.
Show-length: ~55 minutes without an intermission.
