This year, the Portland Symphonic Choir celebrates 80 years of song — 80 years as Portland’s oldest choir! From our very first broadcast on KGW Radio in 1945, we’ve shared choral music that resonates with the heart of our community. Even in our earliest days, Portland’s leaders took notice. In 1946, Mayor Earl Riley described the Choir as “a strong, husky babe whose vigor and vitality will undoubtedly carry it forward into a flourishing organization in which we all can take real civic pride.” Eighty years later, that hopeful spirit still guides us — and we are deeply honored to receive a new proclamation from Mayor Ted Wheeler recognizing this enduring legacy.
