Verdi Requiem Recordings

There are remarkable variances among recordings of the Requiem and I find it fascinating how much room the work gives its interpreters to make distinct musical choices. I wonder if that is because of how much of our humanity Verdi poured into the work and how we as musicians are compelled to search for our own way into it, to get as close as possible to the truth it tells.

Here are a few of my favorites - at least, the ones I can find online to share with you. I’d love to know which recordings of the Requiem are your favorites and what it is about them that puts them at the top of your list.
