PSC Celebrates its 40th anniversary


The Choir celebrates four decades in Portland by bringing together the 4 conductors to have led the ensemble in a gala concert

gluck’s “orpheus” with reed college


The Choir collaborates with Reed College and Bonnie Bird’s Dance School on Gluck’s opera “Orpheus” in Reed’s Barry Cerf Memorial Outdoor amphitheatre with musical direction by Bob Zimmerman.

Choir premieres choral works


The choir performs world premieres of two new choral works by resident composers at the public auditorium. One was a hymn by L. Stanley Glarum entitled “In Thee, Oh Lord: and the other a setting of the Francis Thompson poem “The Veteran of Heaven” composed by Father Austin Johnson.

Contralto Marian Anderson performs in Portland


Marian Anderson performs with the Portland Symphony. Choir. Dame Anderson’s repertoire included the “Kindertotenlieder” by Mahler, and the “Alto Rhapsody” with the male chorus of the Portland Symphonic Choir.

Establishment of the Holladay bowl


Through the vision of Bob Zimmerman, a defunct excavation for a building that was never erected becomes Portland’s Holladay Bowl, an outdoor theatre for operetta, with 1000 seats a a rotating stage.
