Noteworthy News, April 10, 2020
Something to schedule: Mark your calendar for our first "reconnecting with the Choir" session planned for Monday evening, April 20 at our usual start time of 7 pm. But rather than traveling to FUMC (and turning our back on the stay-at-home request) it will be a virtual gathering.
Here are some thoughts about this from Alissa: Just because we can’t make music face to face doesn’t mean we can’t still share time together! This is our opportunity to practice singing technique, learn more about diction and IPA, prepare music for our virtual choir project, and ask any and all questions you have about the voice and singing. If you have a specific question or topic that you would like to learn more about or have addressed, email your suggestions to Alissa at alissa@pschoir.org. More information will be forthcoming in next week's Noteworthy News about the specific conference platform we will use and how to sign in. It should be fun!
Thank you to those who completed the end-of-year survey last week. We haven't heard from everyone, though and we need to know who is coming back for our block buster 75th anniversary season. I promise -- the survey is painless and only takes a couple of minutes to complete. Click here to launch the survey. (If you are having difficulty connecting to the Google Form (survey) please let me know so your vote/intention can be counted: president@pschoir.org).
And from our Board chair, Katherine Lefever: Greetings PSC singers! I hope you are all staying healthy and safe during these strange times. As many of you know, the cancellation of the March and June concerts cost PSC valuable income going into the summer months. Without the fees for service or the ticket sales at these events, PSC like so many arts organizations is hurting. I’m writing to you today because we have a special opportunity to help PSC close this gap and go into our 75th anniversary season on solid ground. The Miller Foundation has generously put forward a $10,000 matching challenge for PSC donors. That means your gift of any amount will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $10,000. Your $20 gift becomes $40; your $200 gift becomes $400; $1,000 becomes $2,000... you get the idea. If you are in a position to help PSC, make your donation online here or by mailing a check to Portland Symphonic Choir, PO Box 1517 Portland, OR 97207.
You can also help us spread the word about the matching challenge by sharing the above paragraph on social media, or by emailing it to family and friends. Thank you so much for all that you do! Stay well!
Upcoming Choral (musical) events of Note: In an attempt to bring a West End and Broadway experience to viewers, The Shows Must Go On YouTube Channel will feature free productions of some Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals. Each show will become available on Fridays beginning at 11 am, Pacific Time for a limited 48-hour period online – no charge or sign up required – giving fans of musical theatre an opportunity to enjoy beloved shows from their living rooms. For April 10, it's Jesus Christ Superstar. This is the arena production featuring Tim Minchin, Melanie C, and Chris Moyles. Here is the link for that video: (here)
