Noteworthy News, April 3, 2020

As official as it can be at the moment, here is the schedule for our 75th Anniversary Season. We plan to host Summer Sings in August, perform the Beethoven Missa Solemnis in the Fall, Wintersong in December, Carmina in March, the Beethoven 9th in May, and a performance of the Verdi Requiem in July. This information will be announced to the general public and sent to our email subscribers next week.

Your opinion counts! Our Choir leadership needs your input. Here is the link to our usual end-of-year survey focusing on 2 important items: Are you planning on singing with us next year (see above) and what are some workable ideas/tools to "stay connected" to our craft as our region maintains self isolation mode. We need to hear from everyone. Please take a moment now to complete the survey.

Portland Symphonic Choir Board meetings are open to all current members of the Choir. Our upcoming meeting will be held via Zoom Video Conference on Wednesday, April 8, 6:30 pm: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/4903675600. Meeting ID: 490 367 5600. (If you'd like to sign up for a free Zoom account, click here).

From Rachael Portnoy Bradley, Alto: (editor's note: Rachael is a certified tax prepare-er and for several years has been quite gracious in contributing to our organization an amount for each tax filing she prepares for Choir members). The deadline to file your state and federal taxes has been extended to July 15. This is great news for those who owe. But if you're getting a refund, either state or federal (or both), I'd encourage you to file right away. You can file now and wait until July 15 to pay your tax with no penalty if you owe more than has already been withheld. That way, if you have a refund, say, from the state, you can get it now, and spend it to keep our economy going, then hold off until July to pay the balance on the federal. (Or vice-versa). Also, keep in mind that in Oregon, this is a "kicker" year. This year's kicker is 17.171%, which is huge. If you don't know what that means, feel free to email me at admin@shoeboxpdx.com, and I'll talk your ear off about it. (Even a nerd like me is getting lonely!!!)
