Noteworthy News, July 10th, 2020
Important request from our music librarians: If you have any PSC music, we need to collect all of it this month. Please write your name in pencil on the front of the Beethoven score so that when we do this piece again, you will get your score back (these are on loan from the Symphony). There are several options for returning the music by Monday, July 20th: (It's a good idea to put your music in a plastic bag to protect it from the elements)
Drop off at Helen's (behind front screen door) -- 6905 SE Woodward St, Portland (971) 998-7898
Drop off at Cameron's (on porch near front door) -- 3347 NE 156th Ave, Portland (503) 577-8863
Drop off at Mark's (text for a time and he will meet you) -- 8635 SW Fannowood Ln, Beaverton (503) 701-8442
Drop off at Alissa's (box on front porch) -- 6103 N Commercial Ave, Portland
Drop off at Rose City Park Presbyterian Church -- 1907 NE 45th (church parking lot) at these times ONLY. We will be there with Cameron's red SUV so you can drop it in the back of her vehicle and maintain social distancing. Do not leave music at the church office or outside at all!
Monday, July 13, 1 - 2 pm
Tuesday, July 21, 4 - 5 pm
Mail to Helen -- 6905 SE Woodward St, Portland, Oregon 97206
For a $20 donation to PSC, Helen will drive (within reason) and pick up your music. Please email Helen (helendeitz@mac.com) if you need another option.
Virtual Sing: Monday, July 13 social time begins at 6:45 with warmups at 7 pm. We will be using Zoom with access code https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84875891208?pwd=dUZIK2N4dWQ0cy8xTWg3cWJxT0l2UT09.
Rehearsal on Monday will go to 8:15 and focus on Lift Every Voice. The music is attached in addition to being posted on our website, pschor.org in the Events section along with practice tracks. Please note that we will be using Draft 6 of the new arrangement of Lift Every Voice (hint to download and print before Monday's rehearsal).
Reminder: our Annual Meeting, Monday, July 20, at 7 pm using Zoom.
Wendy: Dorcas will be leading our final rehearsal of Lift Every Voice and Sing. We will be using Draft #6. Also, there will be time for questions and discussion with Dorcas and Marilyn about this project. Thanks for going on this journey -- learning a new piece virtually! Dorcas wrote a terrific arrangement and I am so glad we are able to use our voices and our passion for music to show solidarity -- to stand with those who condemn racial violence and oppression. See you Monday!
From Alissa: It’s time to submit your Abendlied video recording. There are now conducting videos on the website emphasizing each voice part with full choir in the background. You can access the recording instructions, conducting videos, sheet music, and markings by going to the member page at http://www.pschoir.org (password: pschoir) and clicking the “Instructions to record Abendlied” button. Even if you haven’t been in our Monday meetups, we would love to have your video — just make sure you follow the markings on the “Abendlied Markings” page.
For those of you who have already marked your scores, please note that there is an added breath mark before the final “werden”.
Although we are taking videos until July 17th, the sooner you can get them submitted the better.
Deeterabend is going to be rescheduled for later in July. Anyone interested in singing should be in touch with me (alissa@pschoir.org).
Upcoming Choral (musical) events of Note: This week, The Shows Must Go On series on YouTube features the full-length recording of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, starring Donnie Osmond and Joan Collins (link). As in the past, these presentations are available for free streaming beginning Friday midday until 11 Sunday morning. Also, The film adaptation of Hamilton continues on Disney+.
The goal of the Noteworthy News is a weekly communication via email to all current members of the Portland Symphonic Choir. The cutoff for information being submitted is Thursdays at noon. Reminders, special singing gigs, conductors or singers needed, that sort of information. Send to president@pschoir.org. Please limit the information to a paragraph or two. All items will be edited for brevity and clarity.
