The reading of the Beethoven last Monday was certainly "a blast from the past" as we sang through all the fugues we had ready to perform only a year ago -- and then the pandemic canceled that concert! Thank you to everyone who tuned in, whether a Zoom link or via YouTube Stream. All told, there were about 100 folks connected for the event plus however many more that find us via our YouTube channel. Speaking of which, our Choir now has a special spot in YouTube where many of our presentations and concerts are available for viewing any time. Here is the LINK.
Our next Masterworks experience is coming up on Tuesday, March 23. Elena Sharkova will be leading us in that session. For today, please enjoy the "fun Faure fact" that is attached to this edition of Noteworthy News.
The much-enjoyed PSC Trivia Night is back with all new challenges for us to enjoy, learn, and likely laugh about. Still utilizing the technical wizardry of Zoom, an hour or so of fun is planned for Monday, April 12.
From Wendy: We have enjoyed an exciting start to 2021 working with two amazing conductors, Joshua Haberman and Duain Wolfe. There is still much ahead as our Virtual Masterworks Series continues on Tuedays, March 23 (Faure Requiem with Elena Sharkova) and April 27 (Durufle Requiem with Eugene Rogers). As a reminder, if you are a current PSC member and attend 70% of our 2020-2021 virtual activities, you will not need to sing a voice check/audition in Fall of 2021. Alissa and I are meeting with our brainstorming committee and working hard to continue our virtual season until it is safe to sing together again. We believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that day is coming when we will get to meet in person. Until then, please join us online to see your PSC family and keep those vocal chords in shape!
With the Choir celebrating 75 years of singing together, you are invited to "rank" the top 10 performances of the Portland Symphonic Choir. To get the brain cells going, a PDF is attached that lists all the works we have performed. I encourage everyone to scroll through the list and reflect on the impact we have had on our audiences -- and ourselves. Make some notes (mental or otherwise). Over the next few weeks, you will be encouraged to complete a form on our website to register your "vote" for the top 10.
