Noteworthy News, June 19, 2020

Virtual Sing: Monday, June 22 social time begins at 6:45 with warmups at 7 pm. We will be using Zoom with access code  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84875891208?pwd=dUZIK2N4dWQ0cy8xTWg3cWJxT0l2UT09

This rehearsal will focus on Lift Every Voice and Sing, our “new” piece. The updated music (version 3 dated 6/19) is attached and can also be downloaded and printed from the Events page on our website, pschoir.org. You will note that rehearsal audio files are now also available (thank you Alissa). Please see Wendy's notes regarding this important project.

Our Board of Directors met last Tuesday and approved a budget for next year. There are several scenarios planned depending on when it will be ok to meet and rehearse in person (the ol' fashioned way) then perform to an eager audience. Due to public health considerations, the previously announced concerts through the end of the 2020 calendar year won't happen as planned. Discussions continue on a new date for the Missa Solemnis and this year's traditional WinterSong concert will likely be pre-recorded then streamed online for a grand sing along. Also, a date has been set for our Annual Meeting, Monday, July 20 at 7 pm using Zoom. More details will be forthcoming.

Exciting news from alto Annie Gatzlaff Barclay, baby Palmer Wayne Barkley was born on May 28th at 3:46 pm, 8 lbs 6 oz and 21.5 inches. A picture is attached.

From Wendy: I am so grateful for Dorcas’s new arrangement written just for us and her leadership at rehearsals. Dorcas is joining us again and Monday’s rehearsal will be structured a little differently. We will have a warm-up then break into two virtual rooms for sectionals (SA with Dorcas and TB with Ralph). We will meet together after the sectionals then have group rehearsal with Dorcas until 8:15. I'm sorry we did not get farther on the piece last week and want to make sure we get through the entire arrangement so 15 minutes has been added to our rehearsal time. We are also opening this project to anyone who would like to join us. Everyone is welcome -- all they need to do is email their name and email address to Jayde (jayde@pschoir.org) and she will send them a Zoom invitation for rehearsal. See you Monday!

From Alissa: Mark your calendars for the next Deeterabend, June 28, 3:00 at the DeeterHaus und studio. Anyone interested in singing should be in touch with me (alissa@pschoir.org).

Upcoming Choral (musical) events of Note: The Shows Must Go On series is taking a break in support of the Juneteenth holiday.

As mentioned in last week's rehearsal, Marilyn Keller offered to share information on some projects she is working on: Information on the Youth Leadership Academy (see attachment). There is an emphasis on HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS as “active” attendees- asking the questions of the panel members and driving the conversations. Adults who wish to attend must understand that we are witnesses to this Movement. I also want to invite everyone to a virtual concert TODAY (Friday) at 4pm. Here is the Facebook link:  https://facebook.com/events/s/jazz-fundraiser-for-dont-shoot/594786394496414/?ti=icl. And finally, here is the information on the Poor People’s Campaign-- A National Call for  Moral Revival, which is another online event happening on this Saturday and reprised on Sunday: https://www.poorpeoplescampaign.org/ I sincerely hope Folks will attend one or all of these events -- they mean a lot to me. -Marilyn
