Noteworthy News, September 25th

Welcome to the weekly newsletter for members of the Portland Symphonic Choir. This week and for this virtual season, we greet our expanded membership that includes over 50 singers who are joining us from anywhere they can access the internet!

Thanks for “participating” in September Sings! We were successful in trying out many of the technical details to bring our community together. And a special thanks is extended to those of you who responded to the September Sings survey. Based on the comments, folks appreciated the opportunity to get together, even if it was a "virtual gathering."

Our next meeting time is Monday, October 5, at 7 pm Pacific time as we begin the preparation for our annual Wintersong (Virtual) Concert. Many of the details will be shared in next week's Noteworthy News including the Zoom meeting link.

Some folks still need to let us know if they plan to continue their membership in PSC. If you haven't yet cast your "vote,"  here is the LINK for this year's returning member's survey to let Alissa and Wendy know that you plan on participating. If you don't remember, click on the link. Google will let you know if a response has been received. As a reminder, Choir members from the 2019-20 season who continue this year will not have to have a voice check for the 2021-22 season. (Yay!) If you don't plan on singing with us and don't want to access the survey, please send an email to either Jayde (jayde@pschoir.org), me (president@pschoir.org), or your section leader.

Say goodbye to ChoirGenius/Groupanizer and hello Google Suite for Nonprofits. ChoirGenius is the online application we have used for various administrative details. It is quite expensive (for us) and the licensing expires next week. Today's edition of Noteworthy News was sent via GSuite. The fact that you received and are reading it means the email portion is working as we had hoped. If you are experiencing any "issues" with our new email tool, please let Jayde (jayde@pschoir.org) or me (president@pschoir.org) know so we can work to fix it.

From the FYI Department:

  • Our Choir will be a featured performing group on All-Classical FM. Details will be forthcoming.

  • Our Choir has been awarded a grant from the Oregon Cultural Trust that is in specific support of our Virtual Season!

From Alissa: Thank you to those who have sent photos, videos, and newspaper clippings -- keep 'em coming. We have 75 years of events and memories to capture. Please share them via the Legacy Project Upload button on the Member page of the website (pswd=pschoir). This year's Wintersong concert will include many images from the Choir's history that will be shown with various seasonal recordings from past PSC performances. Questions? Contact Allissa (alissa@pschoir.org).

From Wendy: Our Lift Every Voice project continues to receive accolades and is receiving donations for the local nonprofit Don't Shoot Portland until the end of September. The video will still be viewable on YouTube and our website indefinitely. Please share the YouTube link with your friends and include the link for donations to this worthwhile cause.
